TSpot Total Fitness: OC’s Most Respected Body Transformation Experts

In a world full of false prophets, Paul Fetters and his family are the genuine article

When you first meet Paul and his wife Carolyn, you can’t help but be drawn to their warmth, compassion and authenticity. Their commitment to helping people change their lives is why the Fetters family has been recognized as Orange County’s most trusted weight-loss and transformation experts for the last 15 years – and is arguably the foundation for why their business (The Training Spot with two facilities in Huntington Beach and its newest location in Costa Mesa) has not only survived, but thrived in an industry where so many others have opened and closed their doors.

Success from scratch
There is no doubt that the Fetters’ practice what they preach with regard to the importance of proper nutrition and exercise, but in learning more about the people behind the business, it becomes immediately evident that there are many factors that have contributed to their success.

Some might say it’s because of the uncommon results they get by transforming the bodies and lives of their clients while others point to the ways in which this couple – and their children – continually give back to the community (they helped raise over $60,000 for our veterans though organizations such as the Boot Campaign and the Wounded Warriors project).
Perhaps it’s because they have a child with cerebral palsy, and match every dollar raised during their TakeDown Challenge™ to support the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation (they raised $22,450 for the United Cerebral Palsy’s Step Challenge last September).

The answer could be as simple as watching the way they run their business, treating every member like they genuinely matter. Whatever the root, Paul and Carolyn are clearly in this business for all the right reasons – they are people who love people.

A personalized approach
“Far too many people needlessly struggle with weight loss and fitness because they try to do it alone,” says Paul. “There is no substitute for having expert guidance, a program designed specifically for you by a fitness professional, the accountability and support to see it through.”

A competitive cyclist in college, Carolyn also rowed crew for UCLA before embarking on a professional fitness career as a personal trainer in 1987. Prior to meeting her future husband, Carolyn lived in Los Angeles and was working with an increasing number of clients in the movie industry.

Paul, on the other hand, had already established himself in the fitness industry as one of the original personal trainers at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach in the early 1980s. A competitive body builder, Paul’s clientele ranged from “average people who wanted to look and feel better to fitness models and other competitive body builders.”

“Healthy living is a lifestyle choice for us,” says Carolyn. “I come from a family history of heart disease and obesity, so I have to work really hard to maintain my weight and level of fitness, but I’m living proof that anybody can change and improve their physical being regardless of your background, family history or even your genetic makeup.”

Since the Fetters’ opened their first HB-based family-owned and operated exercise studio specializing in private and semi-private personal training and nutrition 15 years ago, the couple are happy to have had a hand in scores of client transformations – both physical and emotional – that come from changing old habits, losing weight, gaining endurance, energy and confidence as each individual personally learned that “no matter what level you’re starting at, it’s never too late to make a change.”

TakeDown Challenge™
Nearly a decade ago, Paul and Carolyn introduced The TakeDown Challenge™, a “Biggest Loser” type of challenge and comprehensive nutrition program designed to help individuals (you don’t have to be a TSpot member) reclaim their health and fitness losing 12 – 24 lbs. and 5 – 15% body fat in just 28 days, guaranteed!

In addition to weekly boot camps, hikes, and walks the program includes individual weekly menus, grocery lists, healthy recipes, weekly weigh-ins, and cardio recommendations.

“Whatever the ideal body is for you, the point is, you know what you want to look like,” says Carolyn. “Just look at people who have made major changes to their body, the type of changes that make people take notice when they enter the room. The reason is that they all completely changed their nutrition. Whether you want to lose fat, gain muscle, or just live healthy, the limiting factor is almost always nutrition.”

The nutrition component to the program is what sets the Training Spot apart.. According to the information on their web site (www.tspot.org), poor nutrition is what holds you back. Good nutrition is what will move you forward. Good nutrition is what will feed muscle and shed fat. It’s what will improve nearly every health marker you can measure. Good nutrition is what will get you the body you never thought you could have. Change your nutrition and you will quite literally change your life.

‘’It’s an old saying that nothing is more important than your health, and it’s true,’’ says Paul. ‘’But if you are like most people, you’re not getting vital up-to-date information that can help you avoid disease, have more energy, and even get rid of some medical conditions you have. Oftentimes, these are needless and controllable diseases that can be prevented or reversed with a properly supervised nutrition and exercise program.

“But don’t take our word for it. We encourage you to do your own research. Check out other gyms. See what people are saying online. Talk to your friends. And compare The Training Spot with your research. We are confident you’ll like what you discover about us. Tell me how many days a week you are in the weight room, and what kind of a nutrition plan you are on, and I’ll tell you how long you are likely to live — and how well you’ll live for the rest of your life. It really is that simple.

“Anyone can make a change at any point in their lives. It’s just a matter of deciding you want to do it. Nobody can want it for you and ANYTHING is better than nothing. You don’t have to be a runner, you don’t have to be a competitive athlete, just do something for you that makes you happy – ride a bike, dance, skate. Just decide.”
